It all started in 1956 when Alfred Borner, a toolmaker by profession, started the business manufacturing an onion cutter. This cutter was made of wood with four razor-sharp blades bent in such a way to make cutting onions into cubes easy work. This one invention sparked many more, and product demand increased worldwide. Borner has become a well established company over the last 50 years, producing state of the art kitchen tools in Germany. They manufacture the finest quality vegetable slicers and mandolins on the market today and are leaders in design and technology. From the V-Slicer Plus to the new V-Power line, Borner products help add creativity to any gourmet meal. V-Power is the newest addition to the Borner family and is made of durable ABS plastic with German surgical grade stainless steel blades. Three inserts offer ten different cuts, the V-Power can cube, julienne, slice and shred. A patented push button adjustment allows you to change the size/thickness of the cut without removing the insert; the plane insert has a safety position to completely cover the V-blade when not in use. The ambidextrous Food Safety Holder has a serrated edge to safely push food off slicer, requires very little pressure and with a quick 90-degree rotation, can produce a variety of different cuts. I bought my first Borner Mandoline at the county fair 30 years ago. I thought I would upgrade to a better slicer and gave the older one away. Since then I have tried 2 different brands and have been very disappointed with both. I decided to go back to the Borner and find it to be better than ever. I use it every day.

The blades are sharp and they work very effectively. It has mutiple slicer settings that are easy to use,(including a cube function that I have not tried yet). There are two french fry settings also, julienne and 3/4. The 3/4 mode makes quick and easy fast food style fries. The safe mode is wonderful for cleaning and storage. I would definitely recommend this mandoline for people who would like the thinnest possible potato chips or a good quality french fry maker.

Have owned 2 previous V-Slicers (Mandoline) for probably 10 years. Used one at home and another in my motorhome. They were great particularly in slicing really thin slices of tomato and onion. This newer model is adjustable, but it's difficult to change the types of blades for wide or narrow cut vegetables. Also it doesn't seem to slice as smoothly as the older model. On the plus side the blades and knob used to hold the item being sliced store very compacty. I give it three stars. Still slices better than most of the mandolines on the market.
